NOTA A SI MISMO: Note que tiene varios meses que no publicas ninguna ilustración nueva, la causas han sido distintas, desde físicas a mentales, pasando "bloqueo", ansiedad y un poco de hacerse wey, asi que a partir de hoy despues de un buen argumento presentado por el Sr. Woody Allen, se regresa a las andadas, no sin antes imponer un sistema de multas/motivación.

meta semanal: Si no publico un mínimo de 2 ilustraciones completas, 2 sketches o ilustraciones en línea y termino 1 pagina de los proyectos secuenciales (aunque no lo publique, tendras mi palabra que lo hize o no), cada semana de aqui a diciembre le picho y le mando una botella de whisky o vino al primero que en los lunes me haga notar no cumpli con la meta...

Rada is a personal project my first attempt at finishing some secuencial art/story telling, its a story idea/script that's been locked away fora couple of months now, but because of basically many, many excuses abouttime, work, money, have been never been able to finish, so the idea is to publish it online with one page per week (hopefully) so i can finally get this story out of the system and learn some storytelling stuff about the process logic, time organization at the same time.

Rada es un proyecto personal y mi primer intento de terminar algo de arte secuencial, la idea esta basada en un a historia/libreto que tiene guardado un para de meses, pero por básicamente lo que son excusas y pretextos no he podido terminar, la idea es subir una página por semana para poder terminar esta historia, y aprender algo sobre el proceso de contar historias con ilustraciones en el camino.

I was asked to design a central image for the 10 anniversary of the Graphic Design School at Cetys University ( 3 Campuses in Baja California, México), the theme was around the number 10, "10 years of inspiring minds to innovate). I went for a Bauhaus tribute.

I was invited by a friend to participate in an art jam for his homebrewed beer project, "Two Words Brewery", which resulted in a little personal ilustration exercise project for me as a series of beer labels, loosely based on Chess pieces and some references to Stephen King and King Crimson.

A couple of weeks ago, i got an e-mail from a now friend from Spain, about enjoying my artwork, so Julio is in a band called "Metropol" and so got talking about (exchanged some e-mails) some art and music, and maybe some possible future collaborations, here's a piece that came about while listening to their songs.

Between the dayjob/work, other projects, and just plain excuses i've been puttin off a personal project for a while now, and i mean a really long time (college i mean), but i recently concluded that until i get this thing out of my system, i won't be able to complete any more personal stuff.

my own imposed deadline is July 23 (my 30th. birthday AND first day of San Diego Comic-Con)

Entre el trabajo, otros proyectos y basicamente escusas y pretextos, he estado evitando terminar un proyecto personal que comenzé hace mucho tiempo (desde la universidad), recientemente me dí cuenta que hasta que no termine esto, no voy a poder seguir con otros proyectos personales.

Gracias a Ismael, por invitarme a participar como ilustrador/escritor invitado en su web comic semanal, "Nerdmigos", cambiar un poco el estilo a hacer algo a lapiz y tratar de escribir algo, aunque sea corto, fue un experimento divertido, chequen su página para ver a buena resolución la imagen.

Fan Art, for the book "I, Lucifer" by Glenn Duncan, the basic plot is Lucifer is given a last chance at redemtion from God, but first he has to live like an honest human being for a month... hilarity ensues... I read somewhere that they wanted to make a movie about it with Ewan McGregor...

This piece is also for a movie poster themed exposition. I'ts done about once a year, and i usually try to make a poster about a movie i would like to see about a book...

Pieza inspirada en el libro "I, Lucifer" (Yo, Lucifer), por Glen Duncan, la trama es basicamente que Dios le da a Lucifer una última oportunidad de regresar al cielo, pero primero tiene que vivir como buen ser humano por un mes.... situaciones comicas surgen... Y habia leido que querian hacer un película con Ewan McGregor...

Tambien es una pieza para una expo en Rosarito, Baja California con el tema de posters de película...esta expo se hace como una vez al año, y casi siempre trato de hacer un poster una película que me gustaria ver basada en algun libro...

So, i was recently asked to desing a poster for a gig with local/regional indie bands, hadn't done one of this for a while, and is something i really enjoy, I also used it as an excuse to try some more vector /Ragnar style of design, and was really pleased with the result. Sadly, organizers actual words: "It's Ok, but it's a little bit TOO profesional, you think you could make it a little, i don't know, you know, kids like stuff a little more... i dunno, not so well done".

I walked away...

Había escrito hace unos meses que me encargaron un poster para una tocada de grupos de Indie, tenía rato sin hacer uno de estos y pues recordé que es algo que realmente disfruto como trabajo de diseño, también lo utilizé como pretexto para hacer algo mas influenciado en estilo de vectores de Ragnar, y personalmente me dejó satisfecho hacer algo fuera de mi área de comodidad. Tristemente, las palabras textuales del organizador fueron: "Pues, me gusta, pero como que esta un poquito, muy...profesional, y pues a los morros como que ahorita les gustan las cosas como que se vean mas chafitas"

Commisioned work for a website about a book, the illustration is way out of my comfort zone, but since the book is a fable, i had to go to a storybook style, with it being too childish.

Recently i was asked to design a poster for a local rock/indie/electronica show, and while sketching, i realized it has been a long time since i was involved in the regional music scene, also that these proyects are the most fun i've had while working and basically why i got into design. So here are some old gig posters.

Recientemente me pidieron diseñara la imagen por un concierto de rock/indie/electrónica con bandas regionales, y mientras bocetaba, me di cuenta que tiene rato que no estoy involucrado con la escena musical, también que estos proyectos, aun siendo pequeños, son de lo que mas disfruto diseñar, y la razón por la que básicamente me involucre en el diseño. I got invited to an art expo, with the theme being "Myths of Creation" where each artist has to interpret a different myth, this is my take on the whole Catholic Bible thing. The expo is on January 23 in Tijuana, more info when i get the flyer.
